Here comes the Galaxy S20 fan edition
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is supposedly coming soon to replace the Galaxy S10 Lite lineup. It is said to be in the works, and the leaks surrounding the handset have been many. The rumored specifications look pretty robust for the price, which would give the company a worthy rival to the iPhone 12 variants.
The standard Galaxy S20 is amongst the best Android phones, but not affordable for everyone. However, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition should be more accessible for consumers who want the best and modern features at an affordable cost. Here’s everything you need to know so far:
Release Date: Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan EditionSamsung is hosting an event on September 23 named “Unpacked for Every Fan” which indicates the launch of Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition then. This launch date could steal the thunder of iPhone 12, which is speculated to be unveiled in October.
Besides the hint “for every fan” in the invitation, there are other hints about the launch. Samsung's newest flagship recently cleared the NFC certification, which is usually the case before the launch. There are leaks that Samsung would come out in October, suggesting that Samsung may announce the phone in the event and then have the pre-order before shipping the device in early October.
Specifications: Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition
The leaked specifications suggest a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 4,500 mAh battery. Another claim suggests that the battery will stay the same at 4,000 mAh like S20, and raises the chances that the smartphone giant might go with the Snapdragon 865 Plus system-on-chip instead. Regardless of the chipset, it will certainly offer 5G connectivity.
Furthermore, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will have a 6.5-inch 2,400 x 1080 AMOLED display, which is lower in resolution than the S20 but will support a 120Hz refresh rate. Another leak from Samsung itself reveals that the device should come with 128GB of storage.
Cameras: Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition
Coming to the camera, we can expect a three-lens array which includes a 12-megapixel, f/1.8 main camera. There’s going to be a massive rectangular camera hump at the back holding a triple camera setup. We can also expect a 12MP main camera which uses Sony’s IMX555 sensor and not Samsung’s 50MP Isocell GN1 sensor. However, there are no leaks about the front camera yet but we can expect a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens with a 3x optical zoom.
Design and Colours: Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition
According to the leaks, the overall look of the new Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is expected to be similar to the standard Samsung S20, with an Infinity-O display and a cutout at the top. The overall design is sleek and will have an edge-to-edge display look. But, the S20 Fan Edition might use plastic at the back instead of glass to keep the cost down. It will be IP68 rated, safe to withstand being submerged in water. Lastly, we are expecting the new device to be available in red, white, green, and orange, though not sure of the exact options.
Battery: Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition
Rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is tipped to feature a better and powered up battery, which is the same as the Galaxy S20 Plus and pretty generous for something which is not a flagship. The regular Galaxy S20 has a smaller 4,000 mAh battery, so the FE is expected to be a step up along with a 15-watt charger. But so far, not everyone is convinced that the Fan Edition will definitely have a larger battery and suggest that it will stick with the standard 4,000 mAh power pack found.
What do we think?
Based on the rumored specifications of the Galaxy S20 FE, the S20 Fan Edition looks like one of the Android options for those looking for alternatives of OnePlus 8 and iPhone 12. However, we will know the complete specifications and details for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition next week in the event on 23rd September 2020.
Stay tuned for the updates!
