Google Pixel 8 vs iPhone 15 - Battle of the best from both worlds
- 14 Nov, 2023
Introduction
Whenever we do a comparison review the first and foremost thing for us to evaluate on the basis of factors that directly influence a normal user. This blog will clear all the doubts of those who are searching on the web about Google Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 comparison. Last year we did the same for the iPhone 14 and Google Pixel 7 and the winner was the iPhone 14 that time. and we frankly know this time too the result might be the same but still there will be some aspects where the new Pixel 8 will dominate. Both iPhone 15 and Google Pixel 8 are flagship starters from their respective brands. We will be comparing these two smartphones based on design, display, performance, and camera battery backup and will also provide final verdict.
Design comparison between Google Pixel 8 and iPhone 15
In our every comparison blog we mention design is subjective and thus keeping that in mind we will only be sharing our perspective about the design language followd by both these smartphones. Both Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 represent their brand in the design language. Google Pixel 8 comes with a glossy glass back, with an aluminium frame and the iconic camera grill on the back that showcases this phone is manufactured by Google. Whereas iPhone 15 also follows the same design language but this time it’s a bit different as the brand goes up to a matte back glass with the same vertically placed camera set-up. In our opinion iPhone 15 design looks better as compared to the Google Pixel 8 as the courted flat edges of the iPhone give better grip than the round edges of the Pixel 8 and the matte back of the iPhone 15 is not a fingerprint magnet just like what Pixel's glossy back is famous for.
Pixel 8 with smoother and better display?
Now we comes to the display comparison of both the smartphone. iPhone 15 comes with a 6.1 inches of Super Retina XDR HDR10 OLED display with 60 Hz of refresh rate. The peak brightness of the iPhone 15 is 2000 nits. whereas Google Pixel comes with a 6.2-inch OLED, HDR10+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The overall animation and screen navigation looks smoother and having a 60 Hz display in 2024 can be a bummer of lot of people. The content consumption on both smartphones feels very premium the peak brightness of Pixel 8 seems slightly brighter but the colour details on the display are more accurate in the iPhone 15. Both phones support Widevine L1 on all streaming platforms. The display battle between the two Pixel 8 and iPhone 15 is one-sidedly won by Pixel 8 all thanks to high refresh rate, features like always on display and a small camera punch hole.
Pixel 8 vs iPhone 15 camera - Dual vs Dual Set up
Both smartphones offer a dual camera setup where iPhone 15 comes with a 48MP wide sensor and 12MP ultra-wide sensor and the Pixel 8 comes with a 50MP wide sensor and 12MP ultra-wide sensor. The output from both the phones is very impressive. Photos from iPhone 15 seem more realistic with better details whereas photos from Pixel 8 are a bit boosted but look quite good for the web.
The dynamic range is better in Pixel 8 whereas Exposure is better in iPhone 15. So on and all both the smartphones are offering best camera performance considering their price range. The one plus point that the iPhone 15 earned is low light performance as iPhone 15 captures better details in low light conditions. We can consider the camera comparison between the two as a tie because the choice of the picture output in both the smartphones is very subjective but the video output makes all the difference with iPhone 15.
Both phones can record 4K @ 60 fps but the overall video quality whether you consider details, sound quality and stability iPhone 15 stands way higher than Pixel 8.
The story with the front camera is also same, the selfie camera of iPhone 15 clicks more natural photos whereas Pixel 8 clicks boosted quality selfies all thanks to Google algorithms.
Tensor G3 Vs A bionic 16 - We all know the winner
Now google also designed its very own chipset and with Pixel 8 it introduced Google Tensor G3 which has major improvements from the past but when we compare it with Apple iPhone 15’s A bionic 16 It stands nowhere close to it. The single geek bench score of A bionic 16 is 2608 whereas Google tensor G3 scores 1538 and the multi-score of iPhone 15 is 6521 whereas Pixel 8 only manages to score 3866. Both phones for normal day-to-day tasks perform snappy but while doing heavy tasks like gaming and video editing iPhone 15 performs way better than the Google Pixel 8. In our gaming test, we found heating issues in Pixel 8. If you are looking for a more performance oriented phone than you should choose iPhone 15. In many reviews we found people were praising the Pixel 8 capability of getting 7 years of update but with this performance hardware, we don’t think the Pixel 8 will be usable in 2030 whereas iPhone generally never disclose the software support timeline but by considering past reports iPhone 15 will get 5-6 years of a software update.
iPhone or Pixel 8 - Which lasts better?
Pixel 8 comes with a 4575 mAh battery which is larger in capacity when you compare it with iPhone 15's 3349 mAh battery but the strange part is that in our review iPhone 15 lasted longer than Pixel 8 as A bionic is very efficient chip and 120 Hz display on Pixel 8 drains more battery. In both phones you need to buy a charger separately and the charging speed support is also quite similar between the two as Pixel 8 supports 27W whereas iPhone 15 supports 20W.
Conclusion - Which phone you should choose?
This time it is very easy for us to conclude we won’t be telling you which phone is better than the other instead we will tell you which phone is right for you. If you are looking for a performance-oriented all-rounder and want to enjoy the Apple devices connectivity then iPhone 15 is a perfect choice for you. But If you are an Android lover and wants to have a phone that offers clean user experience with crazy camera AI features like Best Take and Magic eraser then Google Pixel 8 will be the ideal choice for you.
