What new we can expect from iPhone 14?
Introduction
The smartphone industry undergoes rapid changes in terms of design, features, software, and specifications. The industry players try to keep their upcoming launch under close wraps so as to take the anticipated users by surprise. However recently, there has been an increase in the number of rumours for the next Apple iPhone 14. It adds a thrilling layer of suspense for everyone in the tech world as they wait to find out the accuracy of such leaks.
According to the pattern of Apple’s iPhone launch in the last decade, iPhone 14 might be released by September 2022. The price of the iPhone 14 is expected to be quite similar to iPhone 13 for the standard model. But due to the significant redesign expected for the new iPhone 14 next year, rumors about the design and specifications have already started pouring in from popular tipsters, analysts and industry reports.
iPhone 14 Design - Much needed update
Apple had introduced major design updates in its iPhone 12 model by removing the rounded edges observed since iPhone 6. It is believed that Apple has not made any drastic changes in their design for at least three years to save production costs and increase their margins. But if the rumours are to be believed, Apple may inculcate some complete redesign in the upcoming model iPhone 14.
The report published by Ming-Chi Kuo, who is a renowned Apple analyst, suggests that the new iPhone may have a unibody design that includes a camera module and a hole-punch camera. The iPhone 14 Pro model could sport titanium chassis which would pump up the cost but will definitely improve its durability. According to Ming, iPhone 14 may have a 48-MP primary camera with 8K recording capabilities, which would be a substantial upgrade from its present 12-MP camera. It is also rumoured that the device might have a periscope zoom lens for greater optical zoom.
According to popular leaker Jon Prosser, who released renderings of the much talked about iPhone 14 Pro Max model on the day of release of iPhone 13, shows an iPhone 4-like design. It would have glass that goes all the way to the frame. It is also presumed that if the right technology exists, there would be the removal of the rear camera bump which was very evident in the previous models.
The industry analyst, experts and avid tipsters are divided when it comes to guessing whether the 2022 model will have a lightning port or not. Some suggest that there might be a portless design with charging done over MagSafe, while others suggest that MagSafe wouldn’t be an exact replacement for fast-charge and data transfer.
Relief from the notch? Along with the LTPO display!
Apple introduced the notch display from their iPhone X model. Apple has been trying to reduce its notch since the last few models (notch of iPhone 13 was reduced by 20%) but still it is very much prominent on its display. The smartphone giant may fancy removing the notch altogether in at least one of their new iPhone 14 model series, which if true could be a considerable update since introducing the notch display.
Ming-Chi Kuo says that instead of the notch, Apple may use the hole-punch camera. Apple is not going to compromise on its Face ID for the hole-punch display, so it may need to find a way to hide all six True Depth camera system components under the front-facing camera display. There might be the presence of in-display fingerprint sensors in the iPhone 14 series.
According to a report from Korea based publication The Elec, Apple is in a dilemma to decide the type of display which they will offer for its iPhone 14 models. The reports say that Apple might use a 120 Hz LTPO display for its Pro and Pro Max models, while the standard iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 will come with a lower refresh rate of 60 Hz LTPS display. However, this will depend on the availability of higher refresh rate displays in the market.
No Space for the mini-series
Apple had introduced the mini-series as a part of the iPhone 12 series and iPhone 13 series due to the popularity of its iPhone SE 2020. However, Apple has not been able to generate sales that it might have expected from the mini-series which have raised a lot of speculations regarding its discontinuation.
According to the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s note to investors, Apple may consider discontinuing the 5.4-inch mini version of the iPhone citing low demand and instead, launch iPhone 14 Max model. Rumors' suggest that Apple will be launching four models in its 2022 iPhone 14 series- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple iPhone 14 with Unmatchable Performance with A 15 Bionic Chip
With respect to Apple’s tradition to provide an updated A-series chip, iPhone 14 is supposedly getting an upgrade over A15 Bionic chip in the form of an A16 chip. It may feature a TSMC 4nm processor chip which is more efficient and smaller than the previous version. The more enhanced chip would provide room for some extra RAM which could make multitasking easier for the users and will improve the performance of the device altogether.
iPhone 14 Expected Price
The range of the Apple iPhone 13 standard model starts at around 1400 AUD, with the high-end version like Pro Max with 1TB storage reaching 2800 AUD price tag. iPhone 14 models are rumoured to follow the same pricing range with the standard model ranging around 1200-1300 AUD and the higher version being double the rate.
Conclusion
The specification and features of the iPhone 14 are subject to a lot of rumours and attention in recent times with industry experts claiming substantial design changes. If the specifications, design, and the features of iPhone 14 released by the tipster and analyst are in line with or close to accurate, it will rightly be the most awaited phone of 2022 and one with the significant redesign. However, the smartphone market undergoes rapid changes and it seems too early to predict the exact specifications, but with so much information around, it still becomes a very dramatic and exciting experience.
