Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
- 17 Aug, 2020
Samsung’s latest Unpacked event announced the company’s new devices. But the Galaxy Z Fold 2 seems to be the most mysterious one. The company has left out plenty of key details regarding the device leaving information gaps, but is expected to announce the full specifications on 1 September. Samsung, at the end of the event, did mention that 5G and foldable are the company's future so we might be in for some great new experiences and features.
Samsung’s second flagship foldable smartphone - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 - is all set to bring with it some significant hardware revisions and meaningful innovations that offer enhanced refinements and unique foldable user experiences. It builds on the feedback with some upgrades and changes, making it look similar to the new and premium Galaxy Note 20 when it’s folded. What we currently know is the flagship’s design, display and some other specifications, so scroll below to read all about this new monster by Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Display and Design
Samsung is using the same book-style vertical fold like the original Galaxy Fold but with a lot of changes. The display on the Galaxy Z Fold 2 seems to have the biggest overhaul here with the original Fold 4.6-inch display being expanded to a full-blown 6.2-inch one with thinner bezels. When it is folded, the 6.2-inch screen has a punch-out hole for the selfie camera in the top centre, and it's a full-screen display this time, unlike the original fold. Furthermore, when it is unfolded the display is 7.6 inches, outdoing the original 7.3-inch display. At least one of the screens has a 120Hz refresh rate, but the tech giant hasn’t specified which one is or it could be both the screens. The original fold had a plastic screen, but the Fold 2 will use the Ultra-Thin Glass on the display, a feature one step above the Galaxy Z Flip, improving the display structure. This should make the new foldable phone offer a better experience while making the screen more durable.
Samsung is offering two colours - Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze. We also have the Thom Browne edition of the device with a more high-fashion feel and aesthetic. It has a USB-C port, but no 3.5mm headphone jack. And, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is thinner - it’s now 6 mm.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Cameras
The original Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 had a lot of cameras, but Samsung had to reduce the front camera notch in the display and it has done it for Fold 2. The official announcement about the Galaxy Fold 2 is that the company is using a punch-hole cut-out to incorporate the single front camera in the interior display. Though Samsung has not provided the camera specifications for the new device, we assume to expect the same camera specifications as that of the premium Galaxy Note 20. This would be a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, 12-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, with 30X Zoom and 3x optical zoom. In addition to this, we also saw exterior cameras with three lenses, but Samsung did not provide any specifications.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Specifications and Features
Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be 5G-compatible. It has a 4,500 mAh battery, which to be honest, is a fair size of a power pack in a normal smartphone, but if you use the large screen often and for longer durations, it might not last an “all day” as the company claims. Though it is confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is on its way, we are not yet sure of the exact release date and pricing, so we cannot exactly compare to its predecessors just yet. Samsung is hosting an event on September 1 dedicated to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 where we will find out more about the camera specifications, the processor, and other features.
