More Pixels in the making - Pixel 5, Chromecast, and New Nest Speaker
- 29 Sep, 2020
You heard it right! Google has officially announced the next hardware announcement which will take place on September 30, at 11 AM PT. The tagline of the invite reads “Your couch is the best seat in the house” indicating towards the online-only event which is the best and wise decision in these trying times. In addition to this, the invitation read “We invite you to learn all about our new Chromecast, latest smart speaker and new Pixel phones” giving us the idea what to expect. It is planning to announce at least one new Pixel phone along with a new Chromecast device and smart speaker in the event.
The Pixel maker had revealed its launch plans alongside the introduction of the Pixel 4a last month, promising 5G versions of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A. Based on the leaks and rumours, we are expecting the Pixel 5 (which Google has teased earlier) and the Pixel 4a 5G to make an appearance on the launch event. The names might change, but the idea here is that there should be two new phones becoming official.
Reports also suggest that pixel-wise we can’t expect Google to use the flagship-level processor Snapdragon 865 SoC, and instead it is rumoured that the company will go with the 765 lines since it's more affordable. The Soli radar functionality which was seen in Pixel 4 will also be gone, thus making it not a very long experiment by Google.
In terms of design, the Pixel 5 will look similar to Pixel 4a, with just a notch higher in the specifications - it might have 8GB of RAM, a 90Hz screen, and a new ultrawide camera on the back. Furthermore, the Pixel 4a 5G will be an upgraded version of the 4a variant, with Snapdragon 765G at the helm to enable that 5G connectivity and an additional camera on the back.
Chromecast
The chrome cast device mentioned by Google in the invitation is expected to be the Chromecast 4 Sabrina. In a leaked Android 11 video, this chrome cast device is rumoured to add HDMI 2.1, Dolby Vision support and a low-latency gaming mode that could work with Stadia.
According to the latest speculations, the device is expected to be affordable and will have an oval-shaped design which will be available for the buyers in three spectacular colours. We are eagerly waiting for it and expect it to compete with the best streaming devices.
Smart Speaker
The other device mentioned in the invitation by Google is a modern smart speaker, which we are speculating to be the Google Nest. This is the potential successor of the original Google Home smart speaker. Google has all but confirmed this device, sending an image of the cloth-covered speaker out to the press a few months back in July. The Google Home was one of the first and best smart speakers, so we're interested to see how the new device compares. It is likely to be something between the Nest Mini and the larger Google Home Max, with the ability to stand vertically.
