- 21 Jun, 2020
The Sony Play Station 5 is all set to come in 2020. The announcement was made in an online event watched by thousands and thousands across the globe. Sony boasts off what the console looks like, its specifications, and multiple games for the system. So, if you are a game freak and have eyes on the new PlayStation 5, here is all you need to know about the Sony PS5 so far.
Sony PS5: Design and Controller
The new PS5 is tall, narrow, and white with a black portion in the middle. The curve and slim shape are comparable with a router more than a gaming console and are different from the general cubelike shape. Despite this, it is anticipated to be user-friendly and not have to stand vertically. Before revealing the design, Sony also launched the Dual Sense Controller which will perfectly blend with it. Though the standard layout is the same as the DualShock gamepads, this one is more rounded and friendly-looking.
Sony PS5: Features
Sony has authenticated that the SSD will allow the system to stop the current game and let you go back immediately into whatever you wish to without loading the game from the start. This is in addition to the faster speed for loading the games. Furthermore, the DualSense gamepad has new features that allow you to use voice-chat without a headset. This might be convenient for some but could be a privacy concern for others. The controller boasts improved force feedback with adaptive triggers that adds fun to the pull of the L2 and R2 triggers.
Sony PS5: Technical Features
- 825 GB of internal storage. This is more than the 500 GB in the first edition of PS4 but less than 1 TB promised in Microsoft’s Xbox Series X
- A solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a hard disk (HDD). This will enable faster load times.
- PS5 will support external HDDs via USB.
- It will have raytracing which is basically lighting effects work like the IRL.
- PS5 will be able to automatically adjust GPU and CPU usage to make games run faster and smoother.
- PS5 will comprise of an optical drive. However, a disc-less digital edition will also be available for the users.
Sony PS5: Accessories
Sony has unveiled a few accessories for PS5 such as a media remote, a camera, a stand for charging the DualSense controllers, and the Pulse 3D wireless headset audio. The new camera is expected to be used for PS VR. The Move controllers that PS VR currently uses are with PS3. Sony, however, hasn’t said anything yet about if virtual reality might play a part in the PS5 — nothing about the PSVR units, nor about what VR games might potentially come to the PS5.
What are the games on PS5?
With the new console generation, we can expect to see overlaps between the PS4 and PS5 games. Sony, however, has disclosed an array of games specifically designed for PS5. It is a combination of sequels of popular first and second-party games such as Ratchet & Clank, Horizon: Forbidden West, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, etc, with other third-party games. Resident Evil VIII: Village will also be released on the PS5. This new play station will also support PS4 backwards compatibility to some extent, but few details have been announced beyond that.
PS5: Pricing
We have no clue about the costs of the PS5. The pricing has not yet been revealed by Sony. For now, we estimate the PS5 will retail for $400 to $500 but only time will tell us the exact price.
