Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 - Newest Addition to the Samsung Foldable Series
- 14 Jul, 2021
Introduction
Latest leaks reveal that the newest addition to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold line up consisting of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Flip, the new variant Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is all set to launch. If the rumours about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 are true - the newest addition to Samsung’s premium Samsung foldable series - we can expect the company to unveil its next foldable phone in a few days.
When it touches the shelves, the upgraded Galaxy Fold is expected to arrive with S Pen functionality and a speedier chipset. Samsung may also potentially lower the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 from its predecessors' prices. Other leaks also point to a more long-lasting design that can withstand both water and dust.
Here's everything we expect and what we have heard about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3:
General Expected Specs
We'll have to wait for the official launch to provide us more concrete details on Galaxy Z Fold 3 specs, but we can make some pretty good guesses about the future foldable based on what Samsung included in this year's version.
Since the Galaxy Z Fold 2 runs on a Snapdragon 865 Plus, we can assume that the new version will feature Qualcomm's top-of-the-line mobile processing platform. For battery life, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 uses a 4,500 mAh battery, which turned in a little more than 10 hours. However, it seems that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will comprise a smaller 4,380 mAh battery, which will still be split across two cells. One possible reason is that Samsung is making room for an internal bay for the S Pen, just as its done in the past with the Galaxy Note series.
Speaking of durability, the phone will come with an IP water and dust resistance rating which should make it able to survive an accidental dunking and dusty outside walks. Samsung introduced a layer of Ultra-thin glass to the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which made that phone stronger than its predecessor and we expect the same in the follow-up model to adopt a new version of the glass that's a little bit thicker, further bolstering the phone's design and making it less fragile.
S Pen Support
With Galaxy Z Fold 3 replacing the Galaxy Note as Samsung’s productivity-focused device of choice, the S Pen is important. The current S Pen might not work with the Galaxy Fold's display, demanding a redesign. Rumours say that Samsung would shift away from the Electro Magnetic Resonance-based design in the current stylus to one that uses Active Electro Static (AES) technology, where the former is better suited to not damaging the screen on a foldable phone and is softer than the glass used for traditional phones. It would also require the revamped S Pen to include its own battery.
However, more reviews imply that Samsung would use a stronger and more flexible glass to protect the display from the pressure of the stylus. While this doesn't rule out the possibility that the S-technology Pen's may evolve as well, it does indicate that Samsung is committed to providing stylus support and ensuring that it doesn't do any damage. Another question is whether or not a S Pen would be too large to fit into the phone itself.
What we can expect from Z Fold 3 Camera set up?
The rumour states that the phone will come with a triple-lens rear camera, comprising of 3x telephoto, wide-angle, and ultrawide angle lenses. Each one is set to have 12MP resolution, and will record video in 4k 60fps. However, some leaks have also suggested that the rear camera on the new launch may be the same as what the Galaxy Fold 2 had i.e. a trio of 12MP cameras, with the telephoto lens capable of 2x zoom. Further, there are expectations related to two selfie cameras, including a 10MP hole-punch camera in the exterior display and a 16MP under-display camera on the interior foldable display. Lastly, a recent leak suggests that the ultrawide camera, one of the trio of 12MP shooters, will have phase detection autofocus (PDAF).
Huge Price Deduction: 20% Cheaper than Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
Like the other rumors and leakers, it suggested that Galaxy Z Fold 3 could see a launch price that's 20% lesser than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. That would be 250 AUD off or as cheap as 2000 AUD. However, this has been the only such report thus far.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 debuted a hefty 2700 AUD, making it Samsung's most expensive phone by far, even after a permanent price cut to 2400 AUD. A report also claims that we'll see two versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 — a full-featured version alongside a more affordable option. Samsung might do the same thing the new version of the Galaxy Z Flip, which has also seen its price drop.
Expected Release Date of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
A report claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will launch August 11 at an Unpacked event. It would be joined by the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Watch 4. Another source back up the August release date rumour, claiming the phone will launch on August 27. However, there is no confirmation until unless Samsung confirms the Samsung fold 3 release date
Conclusion
When Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 2, it met many of our needs simply by building a more durable phone for the users. So the idea of "more of the same, please" would sum up a great majority of our demands and expectations. Still, if Samsung is serious about replacing the Galaxy Note with its foldable phone, there are a few things the Galaxy Z Fold 3 should have, such as a reduced pricing, improved durability, and more multitasking functions.
