Samsung Galaxy S21 is finally here
- 03 Feb, 2021
Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S21 is here and we’ll be able to find out how correct the rumors turned out into reality. With most of the information released in an array of leaks over the last few months about Samsung's next handset, it's now Samsung's turn to show what it has.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 has a faster performance featuring Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888 chip, a more advanced camera system, and a sleeker design. Along with two telephoto lenses capable of 10x and 100x zoom.
Dimensions
The Galaxy S21 looks similar to the Galaxy S20 and has a vertical camera stack that looks identical to the Galaxy Note 20 series and the front display is flat instead of curved. The trade-off is that the bezels are a little thicker for S21. The rough dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S21 are around 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm (9.0mm with the camera bump included. This is a pretty big camera bump. It has also revealed that the S21 and S21 Plus both have come with the same 2.5D screens included with their S20 counterparts, while the S21 Ultra will come with a more traditional curved display
Camera
The cameras of Galaxy S21 are shaping up to be largely identical to what we saw on the Galaxy S20, but with some key improvements standing against the most premium editions. The Galaxy S21 offers triple rear cameras, featuring an ultra-wide 12MP sensor, a primary 12MP sensor, and a 64MP telephoto lens. The premium Galaxy S21 Ultra has sported a second-generation variant of the 108MP sensor, with a new 3x optical telephoto sensor and a 100x optical "super" telephoto sensor leading to a jump in the zoom quality. The company is promising super-intelligent, pro-grade camera and video capabilities in 2021.
Processor
The Galaxy S21 featured two chipsets - the new Snapdragon 8 Series system-on-chip for phones launched in the U.S. and one of its Exynos processors for devices shipped to the rest of the world.
In the U.S, the Galaxy S21 is powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888, which is the company's first 5nm chip and have three Arm Cortex A-78 CPUs and four performance cores, a prime Arm Cortex-X1 prime CPU. In total CPU output, you can expect a 25 percent increase along with 25 percent better power efficiency. Further, the Adreno GPU can offer up to 35 percent improvement in graphics performance which is expected to be the greatest leap yet.
The Exynos 2100, Samsung's next processor, is another 5-nanometer chip. Lastly, in the base configuration, each Galaxy S21 model is providing 128 GB of storage, with the option to upgrade to 256 GB.
Battery
Galaxy S21 sees little changes in the battery, compared to last year's Galaxy S versions. The handset has a 4,000 mAh battery, the same size as the power pack used in the Galaxy S20. Similarly, the 5,000 mAh battery in the S20 Ultra is retained by the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Only the S21 Plus got an upgrade up to 4,800 mAh compared to the 4,500 mAh in the Galaxy S20 Plus. However, despite the similarly sized batteries, the Galaxy S21 is delivering a longer battery life than its predecessor because of Samsung's upgraded chipset on its new phone.
Is it better than the Samsung Galaxy S20 range?
Since Galaxy S21 has launched, we know that the S21 has many similar features to the S20 as listed below. However, the S21 is running on Android 11, as opposed to the S20's Android 10, and has a Snapdragon 888 processor. The other major difference between them is in their price: While the Galaxy S20 started at 1300 AUD, S21 is to start at 1100 AUD.
Here’s a small comparison between the specifications of the two phones.

The base model, Galaxy S20, was one of the best out of the S20 line. It sports premium features, including a sharp display and advanced camera skills, but at a higher price. But the S21 includes many of the same features with few more upgrades, is a better choice, depending on the final price of course.
Is the price worth it?
With the Galaxy S20 line, Samsung made a gamble by not offering a cheaper version. However, it has been indicated that Samsung Galaxy S21’s is cheaper than its predecessors. The basic Galaxy S21 starts at 1330 AUD while the Galaxy S21 Plus Starts at 1650 AED (with a 256GB variant for 1700 AED) and the Galaxy S21 Ultra is around 2100 AED. So considering the price point with the additional features it is packed with, Samsung Galaxy S21 is a perfect 5G phone to choose from in 2021.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy S series has never disappointed critics. The S21 series is among the best smartphones range available in the market right now.
