Xiaomi Rolled Out an OTA Update That Bricks a Few Mi 9 SE Handsets

After the Xiaomi has rolled out an over the air update to their global Xiaomi Mi 9 SE customers, a few owners of these devices have reported bricked handsets after receiving an OTA update.

No confirmed information could be obtained as to what portion of these handsets is affected or if there is any way to get the problem sorted. It is better to avoid the update until we hear back something concrete from Xiaomi about this issue.

It has been about five days since the incident happened for the first time. It was actually reported in Xiaomi’s community forum. For your information, the firmware under the discussion is MIUI 10.3.1.0 to EEA (an update for European market). However, it is reported that grey import devices with flashed global ROM have not been affected with this update. So it becomes clear that handsets bought from Xiaomi’s authorized retailers in Europe are affected only.
